Google stating video content essential for recipe sites and more

When it comes to developing a strategy, it is important to be aware of what Google is trying to do. It would be nice to be in a position where you were proactive, but many SEO professionals and businesses find themselves reacting to Google as opposed to being ahead of the curve. There were some changes on the 1st of March 2018 which will have caused some people to sit up and take notice.

These changes primarily impact on recipe sites, a popular activity on the internet but there will be many people looking at these changes and wondering if it will be rolled out for all sites or other sectors in the future.

Google makes changes and people must react

The statement from Google runs as follows; “We updated our recipe developer documentation to help users find your recipes and experience them with Google Search and the Google Assistant on Google Home. This will enable more potential traffic to your site. To ensure that users can access your recipe in more ways, we need more information about your recipe.

We also added more guidance for recipeInstructions. You can specify each step of the recipe with the HowToStep property, and sections of steps with the HowToSection property.

We now require the recipeIngredient and recipeInstructions properties if you want to support the Google Assistant on Google Home.”

Google is now looking for keywords and video to feature on these pages to be ranked as highly as possible. While some people will question if the move to making keywords more prominent is a backwards step from Google, there is no denying that video content lies at the heart of what SEO professionals and all firms should be doing in the modern day.

Users want to see video content

Users want video content and it is therefore important for businesses to provide their users with what they want to see. Video content makes the process of looking online a lot easier and can provide the information in a simpler manner. It is easy to see why video content is encouraged for recipe sites.

Food preparation is often a very visual sensation and people want to see the steps being taken to create videos while also being keen to see the finished product. If recipe sites can take an extra few minutes to video what they do in the process of making their meals and dishes, they should find that it brings them impressive results.

It doesn’t take a lot of time or money to create effective videos, but it is easy to see why many people turn to the professionals for help. You want to create the best video possible and there is no denying that if your video content looks great and engages an audience, people will come back for more on a very regular basis.

Video content has to be at the heart of SEO strategy for firms these days and anyone who isn’t confident or skilled enough to create this content will have to turn to specialists for support.
